I know what you’re thinking from the title.. the Sahara?? “What the hell, that makes no sense. You live in Indiana.” Buuttt, it does. And it’s real!
On Sunday, my cousin and I decided to take a little adventure up to Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears, Michigan and let me tell you.. It was a desert queens dream!
We decided to do a desert- boho style shoot at this location and I cannot express how amazing the turn out was. I guess I can only show you…
But the scenery was beyond compare. You can actually make your photos look like the sand is endless with the right angles. I’ll show some examples in the photos below.
Let’s just do a quick little description of the FIT:
Shirt: Modish Rebel
Skirt: Forever 21
So now that we’ve covered that stuff, you’re probably wondering where the “I almost caught on fire” part of the title came from.
Andddd.. this is also true! I almost caught on fire. This is partly because I can be stupid at times, but mostly because of a smoke bomb mishap.
So the picture above is the sweet beginning to the shoot.. seconds before the smoke bomb literally blew up in my hand.
For the full story, I began by taking the protective barrier off, like it said to, then I pull the wire and it began to emit red smoke. But then of course, 5 seconds in. IT BLOWS UP IN MY HAND. And it dispersed red powder all over the sand, my outfit, and my face. It went everywhere.
The fire started to come out like a blow torch. Not flowing fire, but actual like force. I felt like I was holding a flame thrower.
So anyways.. after this incident we were afraid to use the other 3 I had bought, but with a little courage we decided to say “eff it” and we did it. And let me tell you, it was SO worth it.
Here’s a little lookbook of the shots we captured:

Thanks so much for tuning in.
Let me know what you think about this shoot!
